India’s smartphone production industry is going strong in 2024, with the made in India smartphone exports registering a 6% growth. The tech giants Apple and Samsung lead the exports boom in India, and their exports contribute to 94% of the overall smartphone exports. This points to the increasing prominence of India as a smartphone production base in the world.

According to The Hindu, the Year-on-year growth of made in India smartphones grew by 6%, majorly because of these two brands. The research firm, Counterpoint, said, “Both the brands have significantly expanded their manufacturing in India to align with the country’s objective of reducing reliance on imports and strengthening its presence in the global supply chains.”

India Smartphone Manufacturing Growth Accelerates

Industry reports point out that India smartphone manufacturing growth is being fueled by increasing global demand, pro-business government policies, and rising investments from top smartphone brands. Apple and Samsung have both increased their production in India substantially, taking advantage of the cost advantages of the country and favorable export environment.

Samsung stayed on top as the top smartphone manufacturer in India in 2024, growing 7% compared to last year due to a 13% rise in its exports. Vivo came in second with a 14% growth and took a 14% share of total shipments.

Foxconn Hon Hai saw a 19% increase in production, mainly because of strong demand for Apple’s iPhone 14, iPhone 15, and iPhone 13 models. Oppo dropped to fourth place as its shipments fell by 34%.

DBG grew well too, helped by making phones for Xiaomi and Realme. Tata Electronics was the fastest-growing manufacturer, with a huge 107% jump in production, mostly due to large volumes of iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models.

Apple and Samsung Exports from India Set New Benchmarks

The dominance of Apple and Samsung exports from India reflects global brands growing in India’s manufacturing capabilities. Apple’s iPhone exports have seen an increase in double digits alone, contributing significantly to the overall smartphone exports of the country. Meanwhile, Samsung remains a strong player, with a wide range of catering in various price segments.

Industry experts believe that the frequent performance of these two brands will strengthen India’s position as a global manufacturing center, especially geo -political stress companies to diversify production away from China.

India’s Smartphone Export Growth

The significant growth in made in India smartphone exports is a testament for the success of government initiatives such as India PLI scheme and strategic investment made by top smartphone exporters in India such as Apple and Samsung.

With India smartphone manufacturing growth showing no signs of slowing, the country is well-positioned to expand its share in the global smartphone market. As production scales and new players enter the scene, India’s ambition grows rapidly within the global manufacturing powerhouse.

Chinese smartphone giant Huawei has launched a foldable phone model called Pura X, CNBC has reported. Huawei’s Pura X runs on an operating system developed by the company as the smartphone giant seeks to develop an alternative to Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android.

Shift from Android

The new Huawei Pura X smartphone is critical to the Chinese tech giant for various reasons. First, it is the first smartphone to run on the company’s operating system, HarmonyOS 5. Huawei first unveiled the operating system in November 2024 as Harmony OS Next. The system is no longer using the open-source code from Google’s Android operating system.

In China, Huawei is emerging as a fierce competitor of US iPhone maker, Apple. Huawei’s market share in China increased by 16.2% in quarter four of 2024 compared to 13.7% the year before. On the flip side, Apple’s share of the Chinese market reduced from 20% in 2023 to 17.4% in 2024.

Another reason why Pura X is critical for Huawei is the need for the smartphone company to expand its domestic market. Since 2023, Huawei has worked to revive its domestic smartphone business after US sanctions affected its sales. The company has been aggressive in unveiling unusual devices, including a trifold mobile phone, in a bid to differentiate itself in the market.

Huawei’s decision to cut ties with Google’s Android operating system appears to be strategic and significant. In 2019, US-imposed sanctions pushed Google into terminating its partnership with Huawei. The latest decision ensures that Huawei’s smartphone business does not suffer losses in light of the ongoing US-China trade war.

AI Features

Pura X is part of Huawei’s premium Pura brand. Huawei’s Chairman for Consumer Business Group said the device is supported by a range of features including mobile payments and phone calls. The device folds into a compact square, creating a 3.5 inch display with a front camera.

When unfolded, Huawei Pura X has a 6.3 inch display. With a 16:10 aspect ratio, its screen area is wider compared to that of many smartphones in the market. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has also included AI features in Huawei Pura X. The phone comes with an AI assistant called Xiaoyi, which is powered by Huawei’s AI models as well as models developed by Chinese AI startup DeepSeek.

The new smartphone is not does not run on the Android operating system. Pura X is the second smartphone that Huawei has developed on its updated system. The first one is the Mate 70 series that the company launched in November 2024.

A Major Comeback

Huawei’s strong comeback in the smartphone market signals Chinese resilience in the face of US restrictions on technology. In 2023, the smartphone company surprised industry observers when it developed an in-house 5G chip that it used in Mate 60. The company also surprised the world when it unveiled Mate 60 in 2024. Mate 60 is the first trifold phone in the world.

Although Huawei has no access to the most advanced chips, the company claims that its HarmonyOS offers a 40% performance improvement over Android. Earlier this month, Huawei said more that 20,000 native apps and services are already running on HarmonyOS Next. 20 of these apps have already surpassed 2 million downloads. The company is working on shifting all its tablets and smartphones to the new operating system this year.

The starting price of Huawei Pura X is $1,037 (7,499 yuan). This price disqualifies the smartphone from the subsidy scheme offered by the Chinese government. The scheme offers a 15% subsidy for the purchase of tablets, smartphones, and smartwatches with a retail price of 6,000 yuan and below. The foldable smartphone is available in five colors.

Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, says the Android phone it will be selling in India will be preinstalled with the PhonePe app store, TechCrunch has reported. Xiaomi phones are often preinstalled with GetApps, the company’s app store and the Google Play Store.

Xiaomi preinstalled PhonePe app comes following a multi-year partnership deal that the smartphone maker signed with the fintech company last year. In the Xiaomi PhonePe partnership, the two companies agreed to replace the smartphone maker’s GetApps with the Indus App Store.

Big Milestone

Xiaomi devices will still have Google Play Store preinstalled. The smartphone manufacturer did not reveal whether Indus Appstore will be included in current Xiaomi smartphones that are already on sale in India. Even so, integration of the PhonePe’s App Store into Xiaomi smartphones represents a big milestone for the fintech company.

“Our partnership with Xiaomi India marks a significant milestone towards our goal of building a horizontal app store for mobile users and developers. By combining Xiaomi India’s reach with our localised app discovery platform, we’re creating opportunities for developers while delivering a seamless, culturally-relevant experience to users. This partnership is just the beginning of our vision to transform how India discovers and experiences mobile apps,” Indus Appstore Chief Business Officer Priya M Narasimhan said.

Xiaomi also sees the partnership as a strategic step towards promoting Indian innovations.

“As India’s digital ecosystem continues to grow, the demand for a locally driven app marketplace has never been more critical. At Xiaomi India, we have always championed ‘Make for India’ innovations, and this partnership with Indus Appstore is a strategic step in that direction,” Sudhin Mathur, Xiaomi India’s COO said.

Driving Adoption

The Indus App Store has been struggling to scale due to trust issues with users. Convincing them to install a different app store has been a challenge for PhonePe. One way that the company is trying to overcome this challenge and increase user adoption is to have its AppStore preinstalled in new smartphones.

“By integrating Indus Appstore with our ecosystem, we aim to offer users a seamless and enriched app discovery experience, while also supporting Indian developers in reaching a wider audience. This partnership reflects both brands’ unwavering commitment to fostering a robust and inclusive digital ecosystem in India, empowering users and developers alike,” Mathur added.

So far, the fintech company has not shared statistics on how many downloads its Appstore attracted or how much it has earned developers. PhonePe’s growth in India comes at a time when the fintech company is pursuing listing on the Indian stock markets. Indus AppStore currently supports at least 12 Indian languages. The App Store is also home to over 500,000 apps in varied categories and even has a video-led discovery feed.

Market Entry

PhonePe introduced the Indus App Store into the Indian market back in February 2024. The marketplace allows developers to list their apps in English as well as Indian languages. Developers can also upload videos and media to their application listings.

PhonePe has been trying to get a share of India’s app market from search giant Google. The company has previously offered to eliminate fees for in-app purchases in a bid to attract developers. Earlier this year, Indonesia fined Google $12.6 million for violating antitrust rules on its Google Play payment system service.

In November, PhonePe launched a new version of the marketplace that introduced better visuals and user interface improvements. The marketplace also comes with voice-enabled search capabilities, a self-publishing platform, growth monitoring tools, and localized services.

iPhone manufacturer Apple has been issued with content certificates for 20 of its products from Indonesia, a ministry representative said on March 7. According to Reuters, the 20 include an iPhone Indonesia certification.

The certifications move the iPhone maker a step closer to getting the iPhone sales ban in Southeast Asia’s largest economy lifted. Despite the certifications, Apple still has to get iPhone 16 sales permit in Indonesia to market the phone model in the Indonesian market.

Apple Investment in Indonesia

The latest move to issue Apple product certifications comes a month after the US big tech announced that it will be investing over $300 million in Indonesia. The company closed the investment deal with Indonesia after months of negotiations over Apple’s failure to comply with regulations requiring smartphone manufacturers to build at least 40% of their components locally.

Apple’s investment in the Asian company will include establishing a research and development center and plants to manufacture components of its tech products. Last year, Indonesia outlawed the sale of iPhone 16 in the country because Apple had not met the locally-made component requirement.

Ministry spokesperson Febri Hendri Antoni Arief says the Apple local content certification covers 9 tablets and 11 phone models because it met the requirements. The big tech needs to get permits from the digital, trade, and communication ministries to sell its products in the Asian country.

Prolonged Negotiations

Apple has suffered several setbacks in its quest to enter the Indonesian market, which has a population of 280 million people. Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Indonesia’s industry minister termed the month-long negotiations with the tech giant tricky.

In November 2024, the country turned down a $100 million investment proposed by the tech giant claiming that it did not meet the fairness requirements outlined by the government. The investment was expected to support construction of research and development centers. These funds would also be invested in building a professional training academy in the country.

The iPhone manufacturer later offered a $150 million investment towards construction of two factories. One of the factories would be set up in Bandung, West Java province to manufacture accessories. A second factory would be constructed in Batam to produce AirTags.

Last month, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita Indonesia’s industry minister said Apple had agreed to construct a chips research and development center in the country. Minister said the center will be the first of its kind in the region.

Non-Commercial Trading

Even with the iPhone 16 sales ban, the Indonesian government has been allowing entry of the product on condition that they were not to be traded commercially. The Indonesian government has also outlawed the sale of Google Pixel phones in the country. Similar to Apple, Google has not met the 40% local parts required by the law.

Qualcomm has made a huge leap in mobile connectivity, with its CEO boasting that the Qualcomm new modem is a game-changer. Qualcomm CEO, Cristiano Amon told CNBC that their latest modem will outshine Apple in performance, which has made its first foray into technology.

The company claims that this revolutionary modem provides better performance than Apple’s modem. Qualcomm is one of the world’s biggest modem suppliers and Apple’s go to supplier. But in 2019, Apple acquired Intel to make its own modem for smartphones.

Modem for AI

The latest 5G modem for AI developed by Qualcomm integrates advanced machine learning capabilities, optimizes network performance and provides ultra-fast speed. Unlike the modem of the previous generation, this new technology increases signal reception, reduces delay, and improves power efficiency-key factors in modern smartphone connectivity.

This week, Qualcomm launched the X85, its latest premium modem. In an interview with CNBC on Tuesday, Amon emphasized its improved performance, saying it would create a huge gap between Qualcomm and Apple’s technology. In January 2025, Samsung unveiled new smartphones with the new Qualcomm chips and Google Intelligence to get ahead of the competitors.

At the center of the innovation is Qualcomm Snapdragon 8, its premium mobile platform paired with Qualcomm’s new modem for unparalleled speed and efficiency. The pairing of Snapdragon 8 and the new modem guarantees smartphones can take full advantage of 5G capabilities, which makes them smarter, faster, and more reliable.

Amon said. “It’s the first modem that has so much AI, it actually increases the range of performance of the modem so the modem can deal with weaker signals. What that will do will set a huge delta between the performance of premium Android devices, and iOS devices, when you compare what Qualcomm can do versus what Apple is doing”.

Qualcomm’s Leadership

As one of the biggest modem suppliers in the world, Qualcomm is a leader in wireless technology. Its newest modem not only surpasses Apple’s but also breaks new records in the sector. With global smartphone makers relying on Qualcomm’s modems, its influence on next-gen mobile connectivity is undeniable.

The Qualcomm new modem is a groundbreaking advancement in 5G and AI-driven network performance, which further cements the company’s leadership position in the market. With the newest 5G modem for AI, Qualcomm is setting the stage for mobile technology, beating other companies such as Apple.

Amon said, “In the age of AI, modems are going to be more important than they have ever been. And I think that’s going to drive consumer preference about do they want the best possible modem in the computer that’s in their hand all the time.”

Apple reached an agreement with Indonesian government lifting the ban on iPhone 16 in the country. This ended the five-month discussions happening between Indonesia and Apple, as per the people connected with the deal. According to Yahoo Finance, the Ministry of Industry is all set to a memorandum with Apple as soon as this week. A press conference is expected, during which the ministry will issue a permit allowing the sale of the iPhone 16.

Why Was the iPhone 16 Ban Imposed?

Indonesia has strict policies on the manufacturing of smartphones to promote local manufacturing and investment. The government had previously refused the permit for the sale of iPhone 16 because Apple did not meet such local procurement and investment conditions. Previously, Indonesia also persisted in the ban on Apple’s sale of iPhone 16 despite the tech giant offering to invest $1 billion to start a manufacturing unit.

The tech giant negotiated with Indonesian authorities and came to a deal to increase Apple’s investment in Indonesia. The smartphone maker agreed to enhance local partnerships. Apple proposed $100 million investment in Indonesia to extend its supply chain in the country. The action mirrors Indonesia’s overall aim to grow its role in the global manufacturing of technology.

Key Terms of the Apple and Indonesia Agreement

While full details of the Apple and Indonesia agreement have not been disclosed, sources suggest that Apple has agreed to:

  • Expand its investment in Indonesia’s technology sector
  • Increase partnerships with local developers
  • Strengthen its compliance with Indonesia’s smartphone manufacturing rules
  • Support digital infrastructure projects within the country

These commitments likely played a crucial role in persuading the Indonesian government to lift the iPhone 16 ban.

Impact on Apple’s Market Presence in Indonesia

With the ban lifted, Apple will be able to proceed with the release of the iPhone 16 in Indonesia. The nation is a growing market for these smartphones. Getting a strong hold over Indonesia will help Apple in strengthening its position in the region as the company’s sales in China are declining due to high competition. By following Indonesia’s smartphone manufacturing rules, Apple can not only be its latest iPhone model retail but can also strengthen its position in Southeast Asia.

Apple and Indonesia’s agreement is a major milestone in eliminating trading tension and increasing the appearance of Apple in the region. As Apple deepens its investment in Indonesia, the nation benefited from increasing technology development, employment and economic growth. Now with a ban on the iPhone 16 removed, Indonesian consumers will soon be able to reach Apple’s newest flagship phones. It will help in making Apple compete in one of the fastest growing smartphone markets in Asia.

India’s electronics manufacturing industry is experiencing a major expansion, as Google Pixel production is moving to India. Dixon Technologies, a leading contract manufacturer for Google, has announced a plan to double its revenue as the Indian government strengthens its push for local smartphone manufacturing.

A top executive told Reuters that Dixon Technologies India, which assembles Google’s Pixel smartphones, is set to more than double its revenue this fiscal year, driven by rapid growth in local electronics manufacturing

Dixon’s Role in Google Pixel Production

One of India’s leading electronics manufacturers, Dixon Technologies, is increasing production capabilities to meet growing demand. Dixon plays an important role in Google Pixel production, assembling smartphones for the tech giant.

The expansion of Dixon aligns with Google’s strategy to diversify its Pixel Supply Chain in India, reduce dependence on China and increase India’s status in global electronics production. However, analysts fear a risk that India’s export sector may incur losses of $7 billion due to tariffs imposed by Donald Trump which could result in increased prices for electronic devices.

Managing Director Atul Lall said on Wednesday, “(For) the sector and Dixon, the growth path is going to be extremely aggressive in the coming future.”

The contract manufacturer posted a revenue of 177.13 billion rupees ($2.04 billion) for the year ended March 2024, up 45% from the prior year. For the nine months ended December 31, its revenue was 285.77 billion rupees.

Dixon’s Revenue Growth

As Google Pixel production increases in India, Dixon is ready to experience adequate revenue growth. The company aims to double its revenue in the coming years, which is fuel from increased orders from Google and other global brands.

Dixon is also expanding its production features, improving automation, and increasing efficiency to support the increasing demand for Google Pixel supply chain in India.

Google’s decision to transfer Pixel production in India underlines the growing importance of the country in the global technology supply chain. This step is part of a comprehensive trend, where companies such as Apple, Samsung and Google are expanding their footprints to reduce the risks associated with geopolitical uncertainties in India and reduce the supply of series disruptions.

By strengthening its Google Pixel supply chain in India, the tech giant ensures a more flexible and efficient manufacturing ecosystem. Meanwhile, Dixon Technologies continues to gain prominence as a prominent player in India’s electronics industry.

Motilal Oswal said in a note in December, “India’s electronics manufacturing sector is set to grow to 6 trillion rupees in fiscal year 2027, from 1.46 trillion rupees in 2022.”

Huawei introduced its trifold smartphone to the worldwide market with a starting price of $3,660. Representing the company’s ongoing global market plans the Chinese phone manufacturer launched this innovative device since it suffered several years of market restrictions while Western companies dominated the technology sector.

The mobile phone launch demonstrates Huawei’s dedication to innovation by featuring a contemporary design with advanced technology features within foldable smartphone technology. As per CNBC, the Mate XT trifold phone was first released in China last year. It features a unique design that folds at two points, allowing users to view content on a single, double, or full triple-screen display. In November 2024, Huawei launched Mate 70 which is considered one of the most powerful smartphones from the company.

Mate XT Trifold Phone Expands

Huawei’s Mate XT trifold phone is one of the current foldable device releases. The tri-fold smartphone design differs from regular foldable smartphones because its three segments enable users to convert it between a compact form and a complete tablet experience. Federal professionals alongside tech enthusiasts find value in this innovation because it establishes a balance between portable usage and high-performance levels.

Huawei Mate XT Design presents users with a combination of resistance and attractive appearance. A seamless folding mechanism exists for this phone because ultra-thin glass technology delivers high-resolution OLED display quality. Extended hinges have been integrated into the design for improving device durability because manufacturers aim to solve usability problems in foldable devices.

Huawei was one of the biggest players in the global market along with Samsung and Apple, before the U.S. Sanctions started to apply in 2019. However, the market share of the Chinese company has now been reduced to 0.3%, according to data from International Data Corporation (IDC). However, Huawei’s market share increased to 17% in 2024 from 12% in 2023. In the middle of these sanctions, Huawei’s smartphone market rebounded as the company saw that the total revenue for 2024 exceeded the expectations of industry experts.

Francisco Jeronimo, vice president for data and analytics at IDC, told CNBC, “the Mate XT will not be sold in large volumes and is likely aimed at those wanting to show off that they can afford such a pricey device. I think that they [Huawei] believe that the trifold can be a unique value proposition and because it is very expensive, they aim to target wealthy individuals who are more keen on showing off they have the money versus having the best experience you can get.”

Huawei’s International Comeback Strategy

Huawei Trifold Phone’s global launch is an important part of the company’s International comeback strategy. After years of regulatory challenges and sales fall in Western markets, Huawei is making a strong push to regain its position as a top smartphone manufacturer.

The Mate XT trifold phone is priced at a premium, targeting high-end users who value innovation and cutting-edge technology. Huawei’s approach includes expanding partnerships with global retailers and carriers to ensure wider distribution of its latest foldable device.

Huawei’s global debut of the Huawei trifold phone represents a significant step in its journey toward an international resurgence. With its innovative design and powerful features, Mate XT is the perfect way for Huawei to make an international comeback, the company is positioning itself as a leader in the foldable smartphone market.

Neil Shah, partner at Counterpoint Research said, “Lack of Google still is a ‘gaping hole’ for mainstream international market especially those who will pay top dollar for a tri-fold hardware but which want to run Netflix or Google’s Play Store or the latest cutting edge GenAI Google Gemini features.”

Analysts argue that the Chinese tech giant is proving its capability to survive even with the continuous U.S. trade sanctions imposed on it, which have been limiting its access to key technologies. China has entered into a deal with SberBank which has the ability to put ahead in the AI race with the west.

Huawei’s resilience speaks about its good business growth, mainly driven by strategic investments and market diversification. According to Yahoo Finance, Huawei has been seeing continuous success in smartphones, EV semiconductors and other technologies. Chairman of Huawei, Howard Hua Liang said, “ ICT infrastructure will remain stable, consumer business will return to growth, and the smart car solution business will develop rapidly.”

Huawei Revenue Exceeds $118 Billion

In its latest financial report, the Huawei revenue growth is more than $ 118 billion, which is an important return for the company. Although they have been limited to being blacklisted by the US government and achieving advanced semiconductor components, Huawei has succeeded in maintaining development in many commercial areas.

Analysts credited this Huawei income growth for the company’s adaptability, especially to expand their presence in areas beyond telecom, such as Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence and Motor Vehicles Technology. Huawei’s innovation ability has made it possible to remain a prominent player in the global technology industry. The newest Deepseek AI which took over Chat GPT, uses Huawei’s Ascend AI chips for interface.

U.S. Trade Sanctions Fail to Stifle Huawei

Huawei continuously battles U.S.trade restrictions that prevent it from purchasing essential American technology used in semiconductor chips, particularly the high-end semiconductor chip found in smartphones and networking devices. The stocks of chip companies have seen a surge due to the U.S. trade restrictions on China.

Although, the company developed another supply chain and began establishing chip production facilities within the nation. Huawei maintains business expansion because it maintains strong market dominance domestically and establishes supply chains with Chinese suppliers. The company’s expansion of its cloud computing along with enterprise technology businesses provides it independence from foreign technology suppliers.

Huawei Smartphone Market

The most extraordinary element of the comeback is Huawei’s rapid rise in the global smartphone market. The chinese company managed to develop new devices after its Google Android service and advanced chip technology limitations as the products started gaining momentum notably in China. In November 2024, Huawei launched its Mate 70 with Harmony OS, amid the U.S. sanctions.

The company now introduces smartphones because of advanced domestically created chipsets which demonstrates U.S. trade barriers have been successfully overcome. The capability of Huawei to design and manufacture competitive smartphones remains a vital driver of overall Huawei revenue growth according to market analysts.

Huawei’s Future

The revenue growth of Huawei demonstrates good adaptation to U.S. trade sanctions yet the company encounters different uncertainties across global markets. The company faces possible barriers to global market success due to geopolitical tensions as well as supply chain disruptions and competition from other Chinese tech firms.

The company demonstrates its dedication to long-term innovations through planned boosting investments into artificial intelligence and cloud computing and automotive technologies. Exponential Huawei business expansion suggests the company will strengthen its global leadership position in the tech sector.

The company has proven its ability to recover and achieve better revenue results while demonstrating strategic business practices. The company demonstrates remarkable novel capabilities by exhibiting successful growth of its Huawei business alongside reemerging Huawei smartphone popularity while handling U.S. trade restrictions effectively in very competitive markets. The technological future of Huawei stands as a central point of interest for market experts alongside global technology sectors.

The recent financial report from Samsung flagged chip industry weakness which indicates that semiconductor demand is slowing down. The Korean tech giant reported earnings reductions which revealed ongoing worldwide market issues alongside price competition difficulties.

As per CNBC, Samsung reported a better than expected profit in the previous quarter even though the operating profits remained lower. The revenue surged by 12% from last year and the operating profit went up by 130% year on year. Samsung’s operating profit dropped by 30% and the revenue slipped by 4% quarter on quarter.

Samsung said in a statement, “Although fourth quarter revenue and operating profit decreased on a quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) basis, annual revenue reached the second-highest on record, surpassed only in 2022.”

Samsung’s profit dropped because semiconductor demand decreased significantly in the consumer electronics and data centers sector. AI-driven market demand has helped reduce the impact of declining profits but overall earnings still suffer from a general profit dip.

Flags Chip Slowdown

A slowdown in flags chip performance reported by Samsung occurred during a challenging period for the semiconductor sector when global market demand weakened. The memory chip sector experienced a brief recovery in 2024 before witnessing new price declines because of surging supplies and technology industry buying reductions.

Competitors such as SK Hynix and Micron demonstrate the same market challenges which indicate cyclicality in the chip industry. The company projects AI technologies and high-performance computing will become driving forces behind Samsung’s eventual market recovery despite the current downturn. Due to the U.S. tariffs concerns, Samsung Electronics shares hit the lowest in the last quarter of 2024.

Samsung shares fell 2.2% in South Korea on Friday morning while SK Hynix tumbled more than 11% after markets in South Korea opened after a four-day break. Asian tech titans are feeling the tension following China’s DeepSeek AI model overtaking ChatGPT.

Samsung added in its statement, “For 2025 as a whole, the Company plans to enhance technological and product advantages in AI, continue to meet future demand for high-value-added products and drive sales growth in premium segments.

Samsung’s Previous Quarter Profit Declines

Samsung exhibits reduced profitability compared to its previous quarter alongside diminished marketplace need and reduced prices. Both DRAM and NAND flash memory sales performed well previously for Samsung before customers started reducing their purchase volume.

Samsung dedicates substantial financial resources to developing next-generation chip innovations such as AI-driven semiconductors along with advanced manufacturing methods even though the market faces diminishing growth. The company stays focused on protecting its market leadership despite present industrial hurdles.

Samsung Electronics Faces Uncertain Recovery

Samsung Electronics will continue to concentrate on market evolution and innovation development through the next five years. The company holds onto its AI investment and high-performance computing growth plans to accelerate its future expansion even though current market turbulence exists. In a recent development, Samsung unveiled new AI smartphones with Qualcomm chips to mark its presence in the market, entering 2025.

With Samsung flagging chip concerns affecting investor sentiment, the company’s ability to manage supply chain dynamics and pricing strategies will be critical in determining its financial trajectory. Industry watchers will be keeping a close eye on how Samsung navigates these challenges in the months ahead.

Analysts expect Apple’s holiday quarter sales to decrease because of intensifying competition with Chinese smartphone makers and delayed AI platform adoption. Industry experts predict Apple iPhone sales growth during the last quarter of 2024 will remain modest which creates challenges for Apple revenue projection targets.

According to Reuters, Apple as well as its rivals Samsung and Google are dependent on AI for the sales of their smartphones. Though Apple’s latest iPhone 16 lacked AI features on its launch in September 2024 and will only be available later this year in many regions.

Jane Hepburne Scott, investment manager at Aegon Asset Management said, “AI is the new technology innovation, the fact that Apple’s handsets are lagging behind on capabilities is a key reason why their competitive positioning has weakened, and the company has lost market share.

Challenges in the Holiday Quarter

The holiday season quarter usually delivers amazing results for Apple because customers purchase new iPhones along with other products. This year’s financial performance might show negative effects coming from three primary factors: supply chain problems alongside delayed artificial intelligence progress and high competition through Google’s Samsung AI devices.

Projections indicate that iPhone shipment numbers reached lower numbers than Apple’s previous annual totals despite the company’s intense advertising efforts paired with its high-end product classification. Google Samsung AI devices are ruling the market in implementing flagship AI characteristics that become active earlier than Apple’s AI integration.

According to IDC data, Apple’s global smartphone market share has come down to 23% in the last quarter of 2024 from 25% earlier. This is a result of Apple sales declining in China due to fierce rivalry from domestic manufacturers.

Apple AI Integration

One of the key concerns for Apple investors is the delay in Apple AI integration within its latest devices. Technological advancements featuring artificial intelligence by Google and Samsung have appeared in their flagship smartphones but Apple’s cautious approach to AI integration has raised doubts about its focus on AI development.

The global smartphone market depends increasingly on AI features according to industry experts who point to features such as real-time translation together with upgraded photography characteristics and automation through artificial intelligence. As a result of Apple delaying its technological advancements, the recent iPhone model release received diminished consumer enthusiasm which damaged total revenue.

Chinese Competition Intensifies

The Chinese market where Apple operates has presented major challenges to the company. Chinese smartphone brands Huawei, Oppo, and Vivo succeeded by producing high-end phones at prices that competition found difficult to challenge. The resurgence of Huawei threatens Apple directly because the company released new devices integrating fifth-generation wireless technology as well as a new Harmony OS in Mate 70, the company’s latest smartphone.

Market analysts report that Chinese consumers are switching to local brands instead of Apple products because they prefer domestically produced technologies. Data showed that Apple’s share dropped to 10% from 17% in China. However, the analyst says that Apple’s revenue growth strategy will help in bringing up the company’s sales by 1.9% in the first quarter of 2025.
